Drumbrute Mods
The DrumBrute kick is often characterized by its "thump" rather than deep sub-bass. Adjustments to the internal components can shape this response.
Changing R301 (Osc 1) or R303 (Osc 2) allows for custom tuning of the snare oscillators.
. Integrating a switch or potentiometer at this point allows for adjustable saturation levels. drumbrute mods
One of the more advanced techniques involves using modules like an AND gate or a VCA as a logic processor. For example, by sending a 'normal' trigger stream through a VCA and an 'accent' signal to the VCA's CV input, the accent can "further open the VCA by some amount, allowing the normal triggers to pass through at a higher amplitude (i.e., accented)". This effectively creates a synthesized accent behavior when controlling external modules, mimicking how the DrumBrute handles its own internal sounds.
When Arturia released the DrumBrute in 2016, it was met with a wave of excitement followed by a distinct murmur of hesitation. The analog drum machine offered an incredible feature set: a pure, knob-per-function interface, a powerful step sequencer with ratcheting and polyrhythm, and a surprisingly playable 17-drum layout. But the sound? Critics called it "polite," "sterile," or "aggressive in a tinny way." The kick lacked the chest-punch of a Roland 808; the snare was crisp but thin; the cymbal was a love-it-or-hate-it affair. The DrumBrute kick is often characterized by its
